I ran across a job posting in our sector recently.

The job title is "Director of Friendly Calls."

It got a smirk and a chuckle out of me. It's catchy.

Since we’re using catchy titles to hire people, I thought I'd expand the list.

After all, a lot of positions still need to be filled in the nonprofit sector.

Champion of Real Connection: Position requires actually talking to people in the community, both on the phone and in person, about their needs and desires that align with the organization's mission.

Director of Antics Removal: This role includes directly intervening in unproductive conversations between staff and the Executive Director - the end result being everyone turns their attention back to the work of the organization.

Master of Authentic Engagement: Position requires caring deeply about what the community needs and creating a genuine bridge between the organization and its donors in every printed communication.

Chief Executive of the Anti-Gossip Department: Duties include walking around the building with an air horn and sounding it wherever whispering and water cooler talk shows up.

Superintendent of Focused Action: This role helps every staff member remove the obstacles that keep them from doing their best work every day.

Chairman of Sniffing Out Sabotage, Manipulation & Undermining: Position includes attending all Board meetings and keeping eyes and ears open before, during, and after those meetings.

Captain of Extraordinary Quality: Position requires looking at every fundraising campaign through the eyes of a donor and asking, "Will they be truly interested in this?"

Supervisor of Crushing Perceptions: This role calls out fake personas and fabricated stories before they ever make it out the organization's front door.

Head Honcho of Staff Appreciation & Recognition: Position requires seeing the good in everyone who dedicates their time and energy to the organization's cause, and creating unique ways to celebrate it.

President of Status Quo Elimination: Position includes rolling a giant wooden cart full of apples into the building and purposely turning it over next to the desk of the Executive Director or any staff member who struggles to open their mind to new ideas.

Manager of the Thank You Division: Position requires speaking and writing as many versions of "thank you" as can be found in a Thesaurus, and never getting tired of it.

CEO of Following Through: In this role you will write down every promise made to the Board and Staff over the last year, and bring it to completion.

So, which of these are you hiring for this Fall?

Hint: They all need to be filled. Plan accordingly.
