In part two of our series in conversation with Penelope Burk, we discuss the issue of leadership in the charitable sector.

In this podcast, Penelope challenges the idea that fundraising veterans at the top of their game are there to bring in the big bucks. Instead, truly great leaders inspire and motivate the team around them to be more successful, innovative and break new ground.

A truly great leader creates an atmosphere where innovation is encouraged and valued. The fundraising “stars” of our generation need to steward staff more and take advantage of fresher thinking and new perspectives to help organization to make the best collective decisions.

Penelope Burk is the president of Cygnus Applied Research Inc. and author of Donor Centred Fundraising and Donor Centred Leadership.  Since 1997, Penelope has surveyed over 250,000 donors trying to find out what really motivates their giving. If anyone knows what will inspire donors to increase their generosity and remain loyal to your cause Penelope does.

Next week we will publish our third and final podcast with Penelope. The subject will be Donor Centred Fundraising.

Stay tuned!
