tiptap, a first-of-its-kind touchless giving™ technology, was founded on the idea of helping those who are helping others. The revolutionary technology allows for an easy, secure way for Canadians to tap to give™ with devices that each have a predetermined fixed contribution amount, making the transaction process fast, simple and secure. Donors can easily tap their debit, credit card or e-wallet to make a difference. Removing this barrier for Canadians to give has proven to be a powerful way to boost fundraising.
Through partnerships with community-based organizations that have long depended on in-person, cash contributions, tiptap is allowing them to collect contactless donations that are as simple as a tap. The funds raised through tiptap devices go directly to sheltering the homeless, providing care to the unwell, and feeding the hungry.
The Daily Bread Food Bank (DBFB) began working with tiptap to offer donors an alternative to cash giving. The organization has been dedicated to advancing research and advocacy on issues like hunger, income security, and living on low income to become a key leader in these areas. With a distribution hub in Toronto, they supply food to hundreds of food programs across the city.
When the pandemic hit, they experienced the same surge in visits as other food banks across the city – an increase of 47% over previous years. At the core of DBFB’s fundraising efforts are frequent events that bring the community together to donate to the cause. With the pandemic halting in-person events and Thanksgiving around the corner, a solution was needed to secure the contributions necessary to ensure that nobody would go hungry during one of the busiest times of year for food banks. With tiptap’s devices, DBFB was able to have safe, contactless collection days to help meet donation levels during their Thanksgiving Food Drive.
“It feels good that the funds received through tiptap devices goes directly to Daily Bread Food Bank,” says Neil Hetherington, CEO of Daily Bread Food Bank.
Beyond the Thanksgiving Food Drive, DBFB deployed tiptap devices for several other micro-campaigns throughout January of 2022, such as Give Back with Penny Olekslak, a food drive event featuring the Olympic gold-medal winning swimmer; Sherway Gardens Holiday; and GLB Hops for Hunger. Aside from the ease of use of the devices, the standout feature for DBFB was the ability to see donation insights in real-time through the tiptap dashboard. With the devices constantly moving between different locations and events, the dashboard allowed them to easily create and manage the various campaigns and monitor performance along the way.
“In a world where everyone is nervous about one another, but at the same time wants to care, tiptap allows us, in a safe and contactless way, to make sure that everybody’s right to food is realized,” says Hetherington.
