In these turbulent times, you find yourself with a steady job. You’re working remotely and are still as busy as ever. Your organization or company is needed right now, so there’s nothing that threatens your job security. So why is it that you aren’t feeling lucky?

It might be because your days are quieter and you have more time to think. All of a sudden, you’re not feeling a steady stream of pressure, your colleagues aren’t interrupting you at your desk, and your boss isn’t breathing down your neck.

So you find yourself less able to ignore the quiet voice that’s been asking you, “Are you still passionate about what you’re doing?” and “Do you feel as though your talents are being utilized fully?”

As COVID-19 turns our world upside down, you might be surprised to find that the stillness is putting you more in touch with yourself. Your hour-long commute is no more, and the crazy hustle of each day is gone. It might be putting you in a more reflective mode.

So what should you do if you find yourself questioning your path?

  1. Reflect on what you like about your job and what you’re finding unappealing. Make a list and see what you find.
  2. Spend some time thinking about your unique talents. The Clifton Strengths assessment can help you figure out what those are for you: https://www.gallup.com/cliftonstrengths/en/253868/popular-cliftonstrengths-assessment-products.aspx
  3. Reframe your job. What challenges is your organization helping to solve? Are you passionate about these challenges? I use the Challenge cards with my clients to help them figure out what kind of impact they want to work toward. You can find the cards here: https://mysparkpath.com/
  4. Take an online course to learn a new skill and develop a budding interest of yours.

I hope these tips help you on your path of self-discovery. The silver lining of self-isolation is that we can use this time to connect with ourselves and our heart’s desires.
