Cuso International is recruiting fundraisers to
serve internationally. Are you the right person for the job? It takes more than
the right professional skills and good intentions to volunteer overseas with
Cuso International. Based on years of
experience, we know that soft skills are as important, if not more important,
than having a great resumé.
Applications
to volunteer are pre-screened based on the skills and experience needed for the
placement. The shortlisted candidates are interviewed by phone, and if
successful, invited to a full assessment day.
Cuso
International evaluates potential volunteers based on six dimensions or
competencies:
-
positive and realistic commitment to
volunteering and Cuso International;
-
commitment to personal learning and supporting
the learning of others
-
self -assurance;
-
flexibility and adaptability;
-
working with others; and
-
sensitivity to the needs of others.
Candidates selected after the assessment day work with an advisor
to complete the pre-departure steps, and attend our five-day course, Skills for
Working in Development. Volunteering
overseas with Cuso International is not for everyone, but is a unique,
challenging experience that provides volunteers with the opportunity to
contribute and learn as a global citizen.
Roles
are generally longer term, ranging from one to two years, but we also have
occasional short-term assignments for up to six months. We look for volunteers
with degrees in a related field and at least three of years of practical work
experience.
Experience
can be varied and include areas such as institutional funding, resource mobilization
techniques, financial planning, event management, grant management, donor
management strategies and marketing.
Volunteers
help raise essential funds, both by developing funding proposals and by
training local colleagues to do the same. They support and train staff in areas
like grant development, institutional funding proposals and resource mobilization.
Right now, we have
placements in Nigeria, Bolivia and Ethiopia. To find out more about Cuso
