Looking for a job in the best of times can be emotionally trying. But it can be even more challenging to stay optimistic if you’re looking for a job during a crisis.

I want to share with you some reasons why you should stay optimistic and focused on your job search despite the pandemic.

Many people are able to work from home right now thanks to laptops, Skype, and other technology. This means that recruiters and hiring managers can continue to interview and hire people. One of my clients had two sets of interviews this week. They were originally scheduled to be in person but they opted for Skype. You can use this opportunity to show that you are eager and adaptable, as my client did.

Most companies are trying to keep their businesses up and running so if they have a position to fill, they will likely keep searching for the right candidate. They might not even postpone the start date if they can set you up to work remotely.

If you’re worried about your financial outlook as you’re going through your job search, the Federal government is introducing measures to help those who need financial support due to the COVID-19 pandemic. You can click here to find out more about these measures: [or paste this in your browser - https://www.canada.ca/en/department-finance/news/2020/03/canadas-covid-19-economic-response-plan-support-for-canadians-and-businesses.html]

All in all, it’s important to stay optimistic because a positive mindset will allow you to see solutions and opportunities more readily. I hope that this article serves as a reminder that the most important tool you have during your job search is your mindset and your ability to stay positive and resilient.
